Sourcegraph Cody is an AI coding assistant that draws on your entire codebase as context, not just the current file or recent edits, but the full repository, including internal libraries, shared utilities, and your organization's custom patterns. This whole-codebase awareness is Cody's primary differentiator: it can answer questions like 'how does authentication work in this repo,' suggest implementations that match existing conventions, and explain legacy code by tracing how it connects to the rest of the system. Cody integrates with VS Code and JetBrains and connects to both cloud repositories (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket) and self-hosted Sourcegraph instances.
Individual Free and Pro tiers were discontinued in July 2025 (new signups closed June 25, 2025); Cody is now Enterprise-only, with unlimited repository access, SSO, and compliance features, priced via a custom quote. Cody's strength is proportional to codebase size: the bigger and more complex the codebase, the more value the full-context approach provides over tools that only see a narrow window. It's less impactful for greenfield projects and most impactful for large, established codebases where institutional knowledge is hard to transfer.

The ability to query across multiple repositories, including internal libraries and shared utilities your team actually wrote, is what separates it from Copilot or Cursor. Individual Free and Pro tiers were discontinued in July 2025, so this is now Enterprise-only with quote-based pricing; no vendor-confirmed public per-seat or annual rate is currently available. That investment requires real Sourcegraph infrastructure commitment to pay off. If your team has 50+ developers on a complex multi-repo system, the context depth can justify it, but confirm current pricing directly with Sourcegraph. Smaller teams should look elsewhere.
