RowBoat is an AI-assisted IDE for building multi-agent systems, a development environment where you design teams of specialized agents that collaborate on complex tasks, with each agent having defined roles, tool access, and communication patterns with the others. The multi-agent paradigm addresses the limitations of single-agent systems: complex workflows that require different types of expertise benefit from specialized agents, a research agent, an analysis agent, a writing agent, coordinating their outputs rather than a single generalist agent attempting every aspect of the task. RowBoat provides visual design tools for defining agent roles, configuring their available tools (including MCP server integrations), and mapping the communication and handoff patterns between agents in the system.

Simulation mode tests the multi-agent system against representative scenarios before production deployment, enabling behavior validation of agent interactions that are harder to predict than single-agent behavior. MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration gives agents access to a standardized tool ecosystem, expanding what they can do without custom integration development for each capability. The IDE provides real-time monitoring of agent communication patterns during development sessions, making it possible to observe and debug how agents coordinate on tasks.
