Descript is a multimedia editor built on a fundamentally different interface model: rather than editing audio and video on a traditional timeline, you edit the automatically generated transcript, and the audio and video update to match. Removing a sentence from the transcript removes that audio. Cutting filler words marked in the transcript removes them from the recording. The practical result is that editing a one-hour interview recording for key clips becomes a text editing task rather than a timeline scrubbing task, dramatically faster for anyone comfortable with a word processor who isn't comfortable with traditional video editing software.

Our Take
Writers, journalists, and solo podcasters who already work in words can cut a full episode by deleting sentences from a transcript, no scrubbing, no razor tool. The Underlord co-editor now handles much of the workflow automatically, which compresses a multi-step production down considerably. That said, it's resource-intensive and won't handle heavy VFX work. If your editing is text-shaped and your machine can handle it, this is the most natural fit available.
